Piano, Pets, and Pumpkins

So thankful for these amazing books that are teaching our kids piano. The only thing I am doing is enforcing practice. However our Job Chart has taken care of most of that problem as well. My kids are way more proficient than my 1 or 2 years of having a teacher ever made me! It is so fun to have a little concert in our living room. It continues to amaze me that a little bit of special attention, no matter how insignificant in the grand scheme of things it may seem, sends our children to the moon.
Toby may never use this in his life. He may never be a great piano player.

Annie has worked with him and encouraged him along the way, so she gets credit for being his teacher!

So does Tim, who is the resident musician in this household.

I read this quote somewhere, "We all need something or someone to love." Our kids recently found kittens. We can't bring them into our home because we have no way of knowing if they are sick and there are no shots for cats. But we let the kids take them milk. They loved it. They thrived on it. They went to check on them every spare moment. Soon, the neighborhood kids found out about it. They thought it was fun to stare at our kids while they loved on the kittens. They would often torture the kittens in front of our kids just to get a laugh of them crying out. It was really horrible.
The neighborhood kids should know better. But they don't. They have never had it modeled to them. They didn't know what to do with our children's pure and innocent and complete love for something to them is dirty and should be rejected. So one day all the kittens had disappeared.
The kids set up a little memorial for them. They worked for hours making this. We came back a couple hours later to even this being completely destroyed. It was really hard. There were tears. We sat down and talked about it. We decided in the end to pray for our friends and to forgive them. It was not an easy choice.
I love fall. I am so happy that we can get pumpkins here...even if they are a little pathetic looking. It's an annual event now that we all look forward to. This year we drove around town looking for pumpkins at all the fruit stands and finally found 1 guy that was selling them!

What a cutie! It is a fun tradition to carve out the pumpkin and light him up for a night. Then we cook him up and make him into pies and cakes and muffins and scones. Even better.
