it started out because it had been cloudy for days and days and this was the first break in a week or more...the mountains looked like they were in the clouds, but the valley was untouched, so we thought it would be fun to drive up and touch the clouds.

it doesn't look like much, but we really are in the clouds here! the kids were excited!

then we drove a little further and decided to hike up to this old fort! much to tim's chagrin...not sure what he was grumpy about...but he doesn't like to have forced fun and i was on a kick! this may not look like it, but it's a pretty steep climb, so i was feeling adventurous and knowing my little accident-prone kids, tim was also a little worried that they would fall.

but we made it this far, to look out over our city and see whatever else annie is pointing out. i mean...we may not really be a hiking/camping family, but we look like it. and that's all that matters in my book.

cute and goofy kids

i wanted to sing..."the hills are alive with the sound of music...ahhhhhhh!" but if you can zoom in on the look on tim's face, it just wasn't the right time. but i have thought about if we ever had to escape climbing across mountains, how we would be just like the von trapp family!

proof that we made and proof that we made it back down is that i am typing this blog! this fort is literally on the ridge of a mountain, looking over both sides of the mountain. it's really amazing and only 10 minutes from our house.
Gotta say it again. I love living in Iraq with you guys! Keep up this blog--a treasure for a life-time!
ReplyDeleteWhat totally amazing mountain scenes!!! Your kids perched on the edge made me feel dizzy and I wanted to reach out and grab them--not sure if that was to keep them safe, or to keep me from falling! Martha
