Mother's Day Outing

I LOVE going out on an adventure, especially when it involves a new road to explore here. This one is a favorite among foreigners here, but I have never been. So it was new to me. A little village called Mawat, tucked away about an hour from our city! It is hidden in a green valley with this awesome river that cuts through it.

We took the Jaffes with us!

At first, we were going to hike down to this, but then we decided our skill level and short legs in the group were not ready for that.
Instead we drove down to the shallows and explored around, only to discover leeches.
So we decided to go cliff jumping in the deeper water.

The back drop with the awesome ruins of an old bridge was amazing!

The kids jumped about 8-10 feet down and then had to swim against the current to come to a place level enough to hoist yourself out.
Pretty sweet deal...until we saw a Kurdish guy throwing huge rocks over and over into the water about 20 feet upstream from us. Turns out he was killing a snake. Apparently there are lots in the water!!! EWWW! So it was a quick jump in and jump out!

Tim and Ben climbed up the ruins and jumped from 20-30 feet down.

 Family jump!

 We all made it!

Annie and Tim swam downstream and climbed up a little rocky outcropping!

He has some pretty sweet moves!

Poor Addy stepped on some glass...so that ended the day.
She was super tough though and no lasting damage.
The road home was stunning and amazing!
Driving into our city again. It was a perfect day for all of us. I loved it. It completely filled my tank. Along with a slow morning with coffee, waffles, flowers and home made cards. I also got an hour to read quietly on the balcony. I am so thankful for my family and to be called MOM by three amazing kids. What an adventure!
