I know that if you are reading this...you are thinking...of course the Meldrums called 9-1-1 while they were home...don't they always have a crisis or an emergency? You know it! We bring a lot of craziness wherever we go. This time was no exception! We were in Florida with my family and we stopped to get gas. Toby asked to help Uncle Ben. Uncle Ben is always willing to love on our boys and let them have fun experiences. So he helped him do the whole thing and while the gas was pumping, they both had their hand on the pump and Toby stumbled backwards pulling the pump out with him. I was in the car and heard the sound of spilling liquid, then Ben saying, "It's all over him..." and a split second later Toby screaming! I jumped out to discover gas all over Toby and in his eyes! I did my usual calm and cool reaction by grabbing Toby, running for the bathroom and screaming for Tim. We ran into the bathroom and began dousing Toby with water. He wouldn't stop screaming! There happened to be a sheriff pumping gas next to us. He called in for us, but i didn't know that. So i was inside crying, Toby was screaming and Tim was yelling at me to stop freaking out. Tim took over washing Toby and I grabbed a phone and called 9-1-1. I managed to not blubber on the phone and told them what happened. They said someone was on the way. For about 10 minutes Toby screamed! It was frightening!

But he calmed down just as the paramedics got there. They set him up with a little eye drip contraption and put saline solution in.

The paramedics had him lay his head back in the ambulance and rinsed him out! We had a whole crowd gathered around watching. Poor Uncle Ben was soaked in gas too!

Thank you Florida tax payers that we didn't have to pay anything for our emergency! His eyes went back to their normal color quickly and we headed to Kohl's to buy a new shirt! It took a few showers to get the gas smell out of his hair, but all in all it was a fun experience. Annie said she was a little jealous of all the attention after she realized he would be okay! There is something kind of fun being the one getting all the attention for an emergency! But Toby thought he was in trouble because all the police showed up. We had to assure him that he didn't do anything wrong and wasn't going to be hauled off to jail. They were only there to help! What a sweet boy! We were thankful for his glasses in that moment as they helped prevent all the gas for going straight into his eyes. We always like to go out with a big show!
Maybe next time your in Florida and have to call 9-1-1, Jordan will respond to your call!! :)
