There seriously is not much to do around here. The kids play together, but mostly we play inside. we only come outside for a few minutes or after the sun is gone down past the buildings. It's just too hot. But as I was doing dishes the other morning, I saw a huge grasshopper on the wall. This picture doesn't make it look to impressive, it's that dark dot on the wall there. But it was huge. it was bigger than Jesse's hand...which isn't saying that much, but still. so the kids went out to hunt him down, because the grasshoppers will also eat our trees and garden...well what the heat hasn't already killed. so he had to be stopped.

Annie brought out her trusty butterfly net

and they captured him. Annie ran off shortly before this picture. Jesse picked up the grasshopper bare handed and brought him up the stairs, but he fluttered out of his grasp and flew into annie's hair...annie was screaming and running around in circles. it was quite traumatic for her. i mean, think about it...a giant grasshopper tangled in your hair and making that horrible flickering sound with its wings and legs. sick. although i am pretty sure the grasshopper had the scare of his life, especially after we found one of his legs still in Jesse's hand. sorry buddy...didn't mean to torture you, just meant to send you out of this world quickly and easily. i think she will stick to capturing butterflies from now on.

we also went to the big city this week to get home school books and play with friends. we love this family. they are so laid back and easy to be with. they have been here for 10 years, so they have an awesome yard and know everything about the surrounding area and people. so thankful to have friends like them... and they have children that play so well with our kids.

plus this cool jungle gym they can crawl all over...still trying to get tim to make us one of these...

jesse and benjamin...somehow jesse got him to take him all over the place on his shoulders.

annie and grace eating cold watermelon after playing hot and sweaty and SO dirty...does it get any better?
