so we finally started home school...can you believe i was actually nervous the night before? wow...i am so messed up! but i want my kids to have an amazing school experience and not miss out on anything they would in a regular classroom setting. i can't actually do that of course, but i can make great efforts toward it. so i stayed up late, papering the homeschool room door and decorated it cute. made sure i had crafts and fun paper and lots of cute songs and great activities to go with everything. made sure each kid had a little new school-ish present waiting for them at the table in the morning...because i TOTALLY love the whole buy school supplies, a new back pack and lunch box and of course a new outfit for the first day of school and we just can't do any of that here...but we managed to find these cute dry/erase boards here along with some colored pencils for the boys and some fun gel pens for annie.

i mean i hate to brag...okay...i don't really...but it's polite to say that. this is toby writing his alphabet. he has all of sudden taken off in his learning. is reading and sounding out words like mad! alright...let's just say it...he's a genius! two geniuses in this family so far...what can i say? not sure about jesse however...pretty sure he could care less. although since we have started school he at least is showing some growth. saw an 8 the other day and called it a "buh" ( you know the sound a B makes.) whatever....i guess you can't have 3 geniuses in one family! =)

here's our corner of the office/home school room, decorated with some cute dollar store finds before we left the states. that little cabinet is full of all our crafts and school books and supplies. i guess i am thankful for my expensive education after all...i learned how to decorate walls and doors! =)

here's our first day of school and we are all working at the desks together, designing little crayons to hang on the door!

both annie and toby have thrived with schedule and structure added to their lives and love being able to work and use their hands and brains.

annie of course is very serious about her work and gets so mad at any little mess up and also argues harder work with me. but fortunately she had a teacher last year that did not mess around and had a lot of order to her room...so i can always throw out the..."would mrs. upchurch let you get away with this...i don't think so." it shuts her down pretty quick. she never wanted to ruffle her feathers! Thank you Mrs. Upchurch!
oh man--i am so proud of and impressed by your homeschooling abilities! how fortunate your children are to have you as their mom/teacher! skype soon?
ReplyDeleteSeriously - you have skype?
ReplyDeleteKeep your blogs coming! We check them every day. Our daughter homeschools, too, but with a dollar store only a mile away she has things a little bit easier than you do! And the donkey thing--that was one of the most difficult things I experienced in Chad--the cruelty to animals. I don't know how to get past that to loving the instigators....
ReplyDeletedoing verna proud!!! we need to link this up to the asbury ambassador--i'm gonna get you published in the 'm' section!
