Azad's Wedding

The morning of the wedding dawned clear and bright...everyone was running everywhere. The night before was chaos and all of the men that had tipped back a little too much "tea" ended up in our basement sleeping it off! We didn't realize this until a few days after though. I seem to remember somebody saying something about boundaries. But who can think about boundaries when Lavine shows up on our doorstep covered in ice cream. Somebody has to love her. After a bath, she spent the rest of the day napping before the wedding at our house. This week was absolute chaos for her. She was a wreck most of the time...with so many visitors in her home, so many cheek pinches, and a lot of neglect.
But someone remembered to buy her a new dress and shoes for the wedding. she was adorably cute for about 10 minutes...before she fell apart again. She spent the rest of the time crying and being passed from person to person, before we finally took her home early. She threw a fit for about 20 minutes...so we just spoke life and value over her tiny heart until she calmed down and was happy enough to scarf down some popcorn with Tim...who she now calls "Da-da". Truly this girl is the child of our hearts.
another little neighbor boy...Ranz in the full Kurdish get-up. He is an adorable little rug rat!
Trying to look our best!
the whole family...Jesse LOVES his suit. He didn't want to take it off when we got home!
the men in the hood. Josh, our upstairs neighbor, Umed, our across the street neighbor and Tim!
Tim and Diako....we love Diako's kind heart.
the boys on the street
the girls on the street
Mama Nazila and Lavine
the boys were feelin' the music
the couple walked in to LOUD music and bubble spray covering them...how romantic...then they cut the ribbon to walk down an aisle...a weird mix of some of our western traditions...not necessarily related to weddings!
the happy couple...i think. you might consider pink, orange and brown for your wedding cake!
beautiful Leila and I
let the dancing begin
Leila's extended family...love these beautiful girls.
Jian and family...their hearts are gentle and warm...and they love to laugh.
i couldn't resist this picture of Jesse
or this one...he was definitely feeling studly in his suit!
this is how Annie felt about the loud music...thanks Ms. Holly for loaning us your ear plugs. It was a trying week for all of us...Annie was really feeling it by the end of the wedding and was clinging to me by the end of the wedding begging me to take her home.
me and my home girls in our blingy best!
A family pose...everyone has to get a picture with the couple...Toby has perfected his Kurdish "smile." I am so proud of Toby for assimilating to the culture so naturally and easily. The week was long...but we learned a lot about the culture and about ourselves. I got to spend one precious moment holding Zilan, the other daughter of our hearts, as she cried out a lot of stress and hurt and sadness. I got to share with her about the Father that really cares about her. There is a deep place in her heart that will someday accept the Truth. Until then I will just hold her and speak Life over her and let her fall asleep on my shoulder feeling Loved.
