The guest suite, aka the kids' room...my parents counting out their pills for the week! When did they start using pill boxes??
Mimi's trademark!
It has been fun to watch my mom interact with the neighbors...having to steel myself against comparative comments...the neighbors love to compare! But my mom is thriving here! Everyone calls her Mimi. She has been out learning language, playing games and even help with chores!
Stirring a pot of bulgar...a once a year thing here!
Today we went to the Citadel in the big city! After being here 2 1/2 years, we have never been...but we went today! It was a lot of fun! We learned that it is over 5,000 years old! It's possible Abraham walked through these very streets!
These are traditional Kurdish hats for men...one from every region!
an old plow
My neighbors have tried to tell me that no Kurdish woman has ever strapped their babies to their back...PROOF! The sad thing is, they don't even know their own culture!
Yogurt making contraption!
All the rugs are hand woven. Just about the only thing you can get that is made in Kurdistan...you gotta like itchy goat hair though!
Overlooking the ruins of the citadel.
Inside the courtyard of an old house.
From the citadel overlooking the newer parts of the city.
Had to finish off the day with a Magnum bar, courtesy of Mimi and Boppa! Yum!

Now I really believe you are there!!!! It looks like everyone is having a WONDERFUL time!!!! Soak it all in--the smells, sounds, scenery, and especially those kids and grandkids. What a grand experience for all of you. Martha
