the day after Thanksgiving began a holiday we have never celebrated before...here they call it Jehzni Korban or you may have heard it called by it's Arabic term...Eid or the feast of sacrifice, commemorating Abraham taking his son up the mountain to sacrifice him in obedience to God's command and providing a ram for him instead. it is the same story we have heard. basically what it means for the Kurds is a week off and lots of visiting each other and giving gifts and sharing in meat sacrificed by neighbors. i almost posted a pic of our neighbor's cow that got the knife 2 doors up, but i decided to spare you. i could give you a taste of him...he is in my freezer. he will be donated at the first chance i get however. here is Tim with our neighbors on a visit the first day.

see if you can pick out the white faces...hint only the americans actually smile for a picture.

on our front steps...everyone modeling their new outfits for the holiday.

annie decided to change her look this week and pull out both of her teeth. i think she looks adorable! it has totally altered her look. i know she will look like a big kid once those new teeth come in. i am officially ushering out her little girl phase and welcoming her into a new phase...sigh. she is so precious to me! for now of course we will sing, "all i want for christmas is my two front teeth..." over and over! =)
oh man annie looks so cute!!! can i just reiterate that i love your blog! it makes me feel so close to you still and apart of your family's life there.
ReplyDeletealso, i was so happy to hear that you devoted an entire trunk to christmas decorations!!
