look away now...if you don't like blood

this is toby's head and his hair...or rather it used to be his hair...this happened today at 4:30 pm, just after i got home with some groceries and tim left to get annie from school. toby and jesse were playing batman as they do at least 3 times a day every day! i heard toby screaming and i usually ignore or holler from the other room to calm down, but there was something different in this scream. so i dropped the apples i was putting in the bowl and ran to him, we met in the hall and i was able to catch most of the blood dripping down his head onto his batman costume. you all would be proud to know i usually completely lose my cool when tim is around and freak out and scream and wave my hands around uselessly, but i was so collected. i took care of him and never once got scared. so my options were:
1. go to a really gross hospital here....get stitched up by someone who may or may not be a doctor and who may or may not have washed his hands and who may or may not be using clean instruments...also there is no such thing as local anesthetic here for stitches.
2. stitch him up myself...since i am a skilled seamstress! you have seen my curtains....
3. pray like crazy...
we chose option number #3!
but i did let tim do the business of shaving his hair off as jesse and annie looked on in horror! but toby was so brave.
we would explain to him what we were doing and then we would tell him to let us know when he was ready. he would take a deep breath and then say he was ready and lean down and take it! poor sweet buddy! this is after the shave and getting the first set of butterfly bandages, which did not stick. so after we ate dinner...let's just take a moment here to realize the significance of the word dinner here. we do not have fast food or take out...which is what i would have done in america. actually i would have been at the ER all night in america...so i made a chicken coucous dinner with fresh veggies in it! i was pretty proud of myself and we had paul and erin over to eat with us, since they were the ones to bring the butterfly bandages and came also to stare in horror and provide moral support..
so after dinner we shaved more and cleaned more and put on butterfly bandages again and this time they held. it sealed right up!
then we put a piece of gauze on him and then wrapped the gauze into place! he loved that! jesse was SO jealous! so glasses are out for the next few days while his wound heals...so we figured God is probably just going to go ahead and do a 2 for 1 deal and heal his eyes while he is at it! so pray accordingly! pray against infection too while you are at it!

  3. Yarping for the two-fer! The picture of the tree with leaves almost made me cry. Just knowing that Papa had it there for you on that day with those leaves. I'm just so blessed by your journey.

  5. how did it happen? poor little guy! I hope he feels better soon...I was secretly hoping for option two and getting to see you stitch him up yourself--but toby is probably glad you went with option three...
