When you live in Kurdistan, apparently you can order a bulldozer or "tractor" as they call it to come to your house...no safety precautions needed. a guy in a dress shirt with a nice pants and shoes and a wool jacket comes lumbering up your street driving his bulldozer. never seen that before.

after a few words from these "engineers" the tractor begins work on the driveway, in an effort to flatten it and keep it from sliding down our hill every time it rains. Kak Umed, Josh and Tim sat on our wall inspecting the work.

and the rest of us...it was the big show of the day, sat a few feet away...never in america would you be allowed near such a big piece of equipment working, but it's no big deal here. plus it's very entertaining!

also quite loud!

so we flattened it out, built a little retaining wall on one side and had two dump trucks full of gravel come out. it's better, but not great. the neighbors after tim and josh worked for 5 hours, were quick to point out everything WRONG...that didn't feel so great! especially since we are trying to make room for them to park their cars! sigh...

a few last instructions to the driver to make sure it's all done correctly...you never know around here.
