Election Day

have i mentioned i love my neighbors? these guys have been so precious to us. they bring us food almost every day. sometimes it's warm bread and fresh eggs from their chickens at breakfast or rice at lunch. Jacow, on the left, just turned 18 a week ago and was able to vote for the first time. she was so proud and so excited. Her parents too, Fairose, who is illiterate still can make her voice known. the word for vote in Kurdish is "give voice." i love that.
they dip their fingers in this purple ink to give their voice to their candidate.
we visited one of the voting places this afternoon...heavily guarded by these guys. this is also annie's school...that dude is probably sitting on annie's desk.
just another shot of the men waiting to vote.
another neighbor proudly displaying his right as a citizen of this country trying to struggle up out of the ashes. we know the promise holds true that their IS beauty from ashes. we wait for it!
Take a look at this video...this is what we are going to sleep listening to tonight! Pretty sure it's joyful celebration for the vote. there were no issues of violence in our town today...but the gunshots don't exactly give me a warm fuzzy feeling!
