Birthday Boy ready for the presents!

First, the new tradition of making a poster, instead of a birthday card! I am not sure when the obsession with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles started...but it has carried on for a long time now! While most boys his age are sweetly into Thomas the Train or Bob the Builder...Jesse was never into them! Toby loved(s) them! Not Jesse, there has to be action and bad guys to kill! He is FULL of passion to slay evil! Well, sometimes he wants to be like the bad guys, but we try to discourage that one!

My mom has a friend whose boys are older now, but also loved TMNT and these sweet boys graciously donated a pile of their toys to Jesse! My mom sent these on to us recently and today Jesse got to see them all! Complete with one bad guy!

But the ninjas were the best!

Especially Leo on a motorcycle! Now that's cool! Way to go Mimi! You not only made his eyes pop out of his head with the ninjas, but you made his party a HUGE hit!

Grammy, Tim's mom, managed to find Bumblebee. So now Toby and Jesse can fight the bad guys together! Way to go Grammy! It's an instant favorite toy!

He even makes sounds!

look at all these amazing ninjas!

Jesse requested chocolate chip face pancakes! Yum!

I was able to finish his cake before midnight last night! I made fondant icing from scratch, but in order to make it, i needed corn syrup, so i also made corn syrup from scratch! I was pretty proud of my achievements until the simplest part of the deal, the cake, got stuck to the stinkin' pan! So I threw a little bit of fit and Tim came to the rescue. He gently reminded me that I always have a crisis moment with all my cakes! So I kicked him out of the kitchen! But he was right and I needed his help, so I let him back in to help me assemble all the pieces and cover it with icing. So the cake was a little dilapidated looking, but the fondant turned out great! =) you could even eat it! It was super easy too! Who knew? I had so much fun cutting out the letters for his name...

....and making a sewer lid for the top of the cake!

Mimi also came to the rescue and sent plates and napkins and the 4 guys to adorn the cake! The plates and napkins are a huge hit here, because the kids take them home and ask for more. They wash them off and re-use them! So precious!

The party was a huge hit with a water balloon toss...

well, almost everyone was happy!

Then a potato sack race...with Carol and I demonstrating how it all works!

I think Jesse only fell 3 times!

and finally the much awaited cake! Jesse was more excited about getting those guys off the cake then he was about eating it!

the best part was having it all outside and not having to clean up a mess inside!

I think Jesse ate 2 bites!

what party isn't complete with a sweet, chocolately faced baby!?

Aram giving Jesse a birthday kiss...much to Jesse's disgust!

Mr. Paul and Jesse with the volleyball they gave him...maybe Jesse will get the cool moves his Daddy has! Happy Birthday Jesse!
Happy 4th Birthday, Jess the Mess!!! Wish we could be there with you to celebrate. The TMNT cake is AWESOME! (Mine stuck to the pan this year, too!)
ReplyDeleteWe love you!!
happy birthday to jesse! I found out I was pregnant with Juliet the day before he was born! :) I'll always remember holding him that first day in the hospital.
ReplyDeleteAnd that cake? Seriously? You can still make fancy cakes in Iraq?!! I am put to shame.

ReplyDeleteill try again.
I cannot believe how BIG Jesse is!! I had to re-read the post, thinking, surely he isn't 4. I think Kristi may be a little confused, Jesse is definitely 3. but i guess you know better than i do...wow.
Annndddd you are the BEST party planner/cake baker EVER. Your kids will never forget how special you made each of their birthdays! so fun.
