We came home for the weekend to check up on things and were immediately whisked into a neighborhood Hefla...party! Marriage is sort of inevitable here. It's not really about love. It's about position, taking what you can get, settling or just hoping for something different. Sometimes it's for love. But even if it is for love, no one knows how to really love their spouse well. The men keep their feelings so completely locked away that they don't even know how to relate to their wives. So...it's not surprising that another 18 year old neighbor is engaged to get married...just sad...especially since it's to her cousin.
Engagement parties mean dressing up really fancy, inviting everyone you know to your house, getting lots of gold and dancing! Here the bride-to-be's mom is giving her daughter a gold necklace!
cutting the cake...really just a stolen western tradition....but look at all those people! it was SO hot and stinky in there!
Leila...beautiful friend!
A fun new tradition we learned about this time...is that single girls should drink after the bride and groom in their special cups so they will get married soon...Holly tried to refuse it...because um...GROSS!
But in the end...why not! I cheered her on! Hope you don't get sick Holly and who knows...maybe you will find the love of your life soon!
Lavine went and found Leila's shoes amongst the hundred pairs of shoes and begged to go home!
The bride and groom to be...
