The Big God Story Day 1

Today we started a VBS sort of thing...something I got from the home base...it's called The Big God Story! I love it! We altered it a little to fit our culture and needs! Today's main point was "God Created Us." So the 80 plus kids used play-dough to make things to show their creativity. These kids had no idea how to make things...but they got into it and had a lot of fun! Even the really big boys! I love it!
Some girls were very meticulous about the things they made.
These little sweeties were just having a lot of fun.
We had the brilliant idea to separate the kids as soon as they came in the door...this made for much more manageable groups. We taped off sections on the floor and they all sat...I think they could have done play-dough the entire time. Our boys joined the red group!
These girls made the cutest little flowers.
We prayed that the spirit of creativity would be loosed....check!
This little guy is full of mischief and wanted to goof around the whole time!
Something about those eyes just draw me in though. I was really strict with them...but I could see hurt and pain from a hurting home.
I just had to include a variety of pictures. One of my favorite things about the Kurds is how different they are.  You can't really give an exact description of a Kurd. Black, red, and brown hair. Blue, green, brown and black eyes! Light skinned and dark skinned! All beautiful! I got to look into their eyes and share in their heart language today how much God loves them and how he desires a relationship with each of them.
Tim stretched his skills to the max today with the kids but did an awesome job sharing the rules for me and getting them all quiet so I could share! The sign in the background was made by the amazingly, talented Holly! She has awesome handwriting! It says "Story of Big God...God us made!"
My heart soared as I told the story of the first few chapters of Genesis. I loved helping them imagine what it was like before creation and walking them through the pain of the separation from God when sin entered the world. I love laughing with them about how the ark must have smelled during the many, many days all the animals were on it! Then they got to create. They got to show what is unique about them on a little square of canvas that we will stitch together in the sewing class on the center to make a wall hanging for the hall! I LOVE IT!
This little guy was serious about creating something special!
Usually they copy each other...but this time I encouraged them to dig deep in their hearts and make only what is special about them. They did a great job.
The teacher in me was on cloud nine this morning! I can't wait for next week!
Just like all kids they were ready to receive their praise for all their hard work!
